The No. 21 110kV Transmission and Transformation Project is located in Rongcheng County, Xiong'an New Area, Hebei Province. Commissioned by the Construction Company of State Grid Hebei Electric Power Co., Ltd., the Group Company was responsible for the foundation pit and slope monitoring services for this project.
The monitoring scope for the foundation pit included: Vertical displacement at the pit top; Horizontal displacement at the pit top; Ground settlement around the pit perimeter; Road settlement around the pit perimeter; Deep-seated horizontal displacement of the pit slope (retaining piles); Strut axial force; Groundwater level.
Monitoring commenced on December 6, 2024, with the initial baseline readings for all monitoring items completed. Subsequent monitoring was carried out according to the monitoring plan and on-site construction progress. Monitoring ceased on April 28, 2025, resulting in a total monitoring period of 143 days.
A significant challenge arose because some deep-seated horizontal displacement monitoring points were located on inclined pile caps and situated more than 2.0 meters above ground level. This configuration created a lack of safe working space during monitoring, posing risks to personnel safety and compromising the accuracy of data collection.
To address this issue, our team consulted with the client and the construction contractor. Under the condition of avoiding any damage to ongoing construction and strictly adhering to State Grid's safety regulations, we implemented an innovative solution: replacing conventional ladders with a motorized lifting platform cart (a small, mobile aerial work platform). Monitoring personnel conducted their work safely from this stable platform.
This approach effectively eliminated safety hazards during both construction and monitoring activities, significantly enhanced the safety of monitoring personnel, ensured precise positioning of instrument sensors and their connecting cables, and guaranteed the accuracy of the monitoring data.
Consequently, we provided the client and the construction contractor with reliable and accurate data, delivering essential safety assurance services for the project. This solution received positive feedback from both the client and the construction contractor.
